2015 update:

Cashed in my chips at SCANA and retired this year. In the last few years I had a stroke and a heart attack, and I figured that if I didn't get out, Corporate America would kill me. God knows it tried.

So, as a result, Jeanie and I are moving back up here to God's country to start the next chapter. Jeanie works hard to stay ahead of her diseases, and I am so proud to be her partner (although I am sure I don't pull my weight).

The boys have both graduated, Logan from Francis Marion and Griff from Western Carolina. Griff is our free spirit and holding down the fort in Columbia while working part-time, loving that millennial lifestyle... well at least until we sell the house. He is actually very talented and loved by the people he works with. For now, given our health, he has had to be flexible to help us move up here. He is our McGyver, and when he steps in to help, we all step back and wait for instructions...

Logan is a strategist at the Greenville News. I have no clue what that means, but it sounds good! Actually, he loves it, and apparently they are very happy with him. We will get into these spirited discussions about business, and I just pretend to understand him... kinda scary. Glad he knows his stuff, 'cause I sure don't and I majored in business.

Graduated from Clemson in '82
Headed to Columbia the day after graduation, married Jeanie in August of that year, moved to the suburbs, and have been there ever since.

I used to have hobbies until the boys came along. From that point it was all about chasing them around. They are both athletes, so I coached everything... t-ball, coaches pitch, soccer... then came hockey. That's right, HOCKEY! I am convinced Logan started playing because he knew I didn't know a damned thing about it, and Griff fell right in behind him. Amazingly, I was still able to coach them for a while, when they started with inline, but when they both moved to ice hockey, I was out of my league. They both played inline and ice for several years, in house leagues and on travel teams. At one point, between the two of them, they were on SEVEN teams. We lived in rinks across the southeast, but it was great fun. Logan went on to play as a four year starter on the Lexington 5 district high school team. Both migrated to varsity sports when they got into high school, both playing football and running track at Dutch Fork, eventually becoming pole vaulters as well.

As a junior, Griff is still going strong at Dutch Fork. Logan has moved on to Francis Marion University and the college life. Remembering my Clemson days, I try not to think about that too much. If you've ever heard Kenny Chesney's "Keg in the Closet" that could have been written about Logan's fraternity....Yikes! He is, however, trying to squeeze in some education and was just named co-chair of the University Program Committee and president of the Inter Fraternity Council.

In addition to sports, Griff has become a wicked guitar player... initially taking after his ol' man. The problem is now he can beat the hell out of me... of course if you ever heard me play, you know it can't be that hard. He has a room full of guitars, and his favorites are classic rock tunes... scary good. In fact, a local band just picked him up to play with them... groupies and I-tunes and everything. Look out Van Halen!

Jeanie is my best friend. She was a math teacher before health issues sidelined her career. She still keeps us straight around the house, and is the heart of the home. She also does a great deal of volunteer work at the school.

School Story:

It seems like, for me, every school story starts with "I was in Mr. Stevenson's class...". I remember a series of events that started when he moved me to the front desk in the class because I was talking. I believe it was Gretchen Becker or Meg Harris. We were talking about the senior trip to Six Flags when Mr. S caught me and said " come up front. If you're going to talk to anyone, you're going to talk to me!" So I collected my things, moved to the front desk, sat down and said "Okay, are YOU going to Six Flags?" I thought it was pretty clever... he didn't see it that way.

From that seat, he and I engaged in incredible political discussions. One week, we went for THREE DAYS without working one single equation. People in the class were begging me to get him revved up so we didn't have to do any work, and damned if it didn't work! THREE DAYS ... I think that's a record.

Then there was the day his zipper broke. Won't go into detail here, but I did hold out a sign for him (honestly, a good faith gesture), and his reaction was priceless.

I truly loved Mr's Stevenson, and was sad to hear about his least he and Whitey are now together.

Hey, Myron. You probably don't remember me, but in reading your profile, I was interested in the fact that both you and your wife work with the Greenville News. My oldest son, Logan, is now working there as an online strategist. I am sure there are tons of people over there, but if you ever you into him, I need you to lie and tell him I was a stud on the football team :)
